Graveyard Keeper 2 Dream Dust — How to Make It Step by Step
Dream Dust in Graveyard Keeper 2 takes 1 green rune and 1 blue rune at the Labo. Study Water and Blood at the Study Table, stock a flask, and mix it.

What is Dream Dust in Graveyard Keeper 2?
Dream Dust is the first alchemy blend most players craft, and the one the Plague Doctor asks for. Its recipe is 1 green rune + 1 blue rune, mixed at the alchemy station the community calls the Labo — the in-game window is titled Laboratory I.
The ingredients are interchangeable, because the rune system does not care what the item is called. Any item worth 1 green rune combined with any item worth 1 blue rune produces Dream Dust, which is why the guide below studies Water and Blood as the worked example.
The Folio already names the target: Dream Dust, 1 green rune plus 1 blue rune. Source frame: Quick Tips at 0:02.
What is Dream Dust used for?
The research notes list two consumers, and neither is a bulk item — Dream Dust is a precision ingredient:
- Crop Boosting Fertilizer I — 2 Peat + 1 Dream Dust, worth +2 growth tiles on a Garden Bed. Peat is made from Leaf at the Compost Pile (8 Leaf → 2 Peat on the base pile, 16 Leaf → 5 after the upgrade), so the fertiliser line quietly competes with your leaf supply.
- Fancy Incense — the second sink recorded in the alchemy overview. Make a small batch rather than one bottle so both uses can be fed.
Because a single Garden Bed takes at most two fertiliser slots, one Dream Dust batch feeds a handful of beds — this is not a recipe you need to run at factory scale.
Step 1 — Pick up the Sweet Dreams quest
Dream Dust is not optional content: the Plague Doctor’s Sweet Dreams quest asks for it, and completing it is the first step toward the free zombies covered in the how to make zombies guide.
Open the Quests log and read the objective before shopping for ingredients. The checked walkthrough shows the exact wording — “Bring the Dream Dust to the Plague Doctor in the Abandoned Tower” — plus a two-item requirement row.

Step 2 — Get Science at the Study Table
Runes are hidden until an ingredient is studied, and studying is not free. Walk to the Study Table in the Alchemy Lab, place a Science Kit I on it, and the window offers to decompose the kit for +30 Science. One ingredient study then costs 1 Science, so a single kit pays for a long research session.
“Decomposing this item will give you +30.” Source frame: The Lost Noob at 0:36.
Science Kits are not bought at the Study Table — they come out of the Writing Desk (Alchemy Flasks + Clean Paper + Ink), which is the same station that later feeds the wider production chain. If the Study button is greyed out, the cause is almost always an empty Science counter, not a missing ingredient.
Step 3 — Study one green and one blue ingredient
Place each candidate ingredient on the Study Table and confirm. The completion popup names the item and prints its Compound, i.e. the runes it carries.
In the checked walkthroughs, Water completes with Compound: 1 green and Blood completes with Compound: 1 blue — exactly the two halves of the Dream Dust formula.
Water is the green half of the worked example. Source frame: Recreational Suffering at 0:52.
Blood returns the blue rune, completing the pair. Source frame: Recreational Suffering at 0:48.
Alternative single-rune ingredients exist — the research notes list Leaf + Blood and Berry + Blueberry as further valid Dream Dust pairs. Watch out for items whose runes are not single-colour: Flax is recorded at 1 red + 1 green, so pairing it with a blue ingredient would leave a red rune in the total and break the mix. Flax belongs in the Fabric and Paper lines instead — see the Flax guide.
Step 4 — Stock the Flask shelf
The Laboratory I window consumes an empty flask with every craft, and an empty shelf means a blocked Craft button no matter how good the ingredients are. The Flask shelf in the Alchemy Lab is where those come from: the dialog prompt is “Keep the shelf stocked, to provide empty flasks for alchemy.”
Place a flask stack here before opening the Labo. Source frame: The Lost Noob at 1:12.
Step 5 — Blend the pair in the Labo
Open Laboratory I and put the green ingredient in one ingredient slot and the blue ingredient in the other. The window lights a rune lamp per colour in the total, so you can read the math before committing: a correct pair lights exactly one green and one blue lamp and unlocks Craft.
Two ingredients in, one green lamp and one blue lamp lit, Craft enabled. Source frame: The Lost Noob at 1:24.
The frame above uses Leaf (the green rune) with Blood (the blue rune) — the same pair the research notes list as a valid Dream Dust mix, and a good reminder that the two ingredients do not have to be Water and Blood.
The Labo checks the total, not the item names: the mix has to equal the formula exactly. Laboratory I holds up to two ingredients; Laboratory II widens that to three, which matters for the bigger formulas such as Reanimation Liquid (2 red / 1 green / 4 blue) that the zombie guide walks through.
Step 6 — Confirm the Dream Dust in your inventory
When the craft resolves, Dream Dust appears in your inventory and an item toast confirms it. The same toast carries the alchemy experience for the craft, and the finished dust can go straight to the Plague Doctor or into the fertiliser chain.

Plan the Dream Dust loop with the calculators
Two planning questions decide whether Dream Dust is cheap or annoying: how much Leaf the Peat line eats, and where the Labo and Study Table should sit relative to your alchemy and garden clusters.
- The production calculator costs the individual crafts — Dream Dust, Peat, Science Kits — so you can see which step is the real bottleneck.
- The layout guide covers station clustering, so the Study Table, Flask shelf and Labo are not three separate trips.
- The peat and fertiliser side competes with Flax and garden output; the Flax guide explains what the same field space produces instead.
- Dream Dust also sits on the same alchemy bench as the money recipes: how to make gold covers the Formulation Bench and Golden ingot side of that station family.

The rune values and recipe totals in this article come from the on-screen Folio entry and Study popups shown above, cross-checked against the project research notes. Rune values for items not shown in these videos (including the alternative pairs) are community data, not verified in-game here; recheck the Folio after a patch, because recipe totals and rune values are exactly the kind of data a balance update can move.
